YOUNG HEROES

I want to acknowledge the courage of all those participating in school strikes today to call for greater action for climate change. The web site for the Youth Climate Strike is inspiring and humbling. It’s leaders are listed as:

Isra Hirsi – 16, Haven Coleman – 12, Alexandria Villasenor – 13, Feliquan Charlemagne – 17.

THANK GOD for young people like this and so many others of all ages all around the world.

We all should be aware of the massive U.N. backed study from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform On Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). It’s over 3 years in the making, 8,000 plus pages, and a collaboration of more than 500 experts in 50 countries. It is the greatest attempt yet to assess the state of life on Earth. It shows how the felling of forests, over-exploitation of seas and soils, and pollution of our air and water are far exceeding Earth’s ability to renew itself.

It’s time for us all to follow the lead of these young people and get in the game. Places to start include shifting to more plant based diets, driving less, and otherwise reducing our energy and resource use. We are WAY BEYOND the time where anyone should tolerate deliberate misinformation and lies by any politician, party, business leader, or news outlet. I believe we also need to spend MORE TIME IN NATURE. The more connected we are, the more we’ll know what to do.

Blessings to these young heroes and to us all
